The Sacred Engine | short film
In a post-utopian society, technological advances have given mankind access to the exact regions and frequencies of the brain connected to religious euphoria and bliss. Through the use of a machine, they are able to activate and control these transcendental experiences. The film follows two enigmatic figures as they interact with this mechanism and the metaphysical world around them in very different ways.
The Sacred Engine is a stop-motion animated short film by David Bell and Joe Scarpulla that accompanies a larger body of their sculpture and photography work. The film is the product of several years of work, scheduled in and around commercial productions at Big Object, and is currently in production.
